If you have been on holiday to Fuerteventura in the past, no doubt you will have your favourite area. Although, the current two main areas for UK and Irish sunseekers are Caleta De Fuste and Corralejo.
known to the locals as “El Castillo” is a purpose built resort on the East coast of the island some 10 minutes drive from Fuerteventura´s International Airport.
The resort is home to the first golf course on the island with quality properties developed by a leading Spanish company that has also built many of the hotels in the resort and the award winning Atlantico Centre. The course was home to the Spanish PGA Open in 2004. Alongside this there is a new course and houses being constructed and both greens are an impressive view on your approach before you land in Fuerteventura.
Caleta is split into three areas - Central Caleta that tends to be more tourist than residential, the golf courses and Montana Blanca also known as Chipmunk mountain where there are numerous developments with impressive sea and views of the resort down below.
The beach at Caleta is protected somewhat from the harbour walls and largely remains very calm making it ideal for families with children. Wind surfing, jet skies and other water sports are available for hire.
Caleta is a good base to take a holiday or live. It is fairly central in the island and therefore ideal for rental purposes as transfer times from the airport are minimal.
Neighbouring villages for those that do not want to live in a tourist resort include Antigua and Triquiviajte. Both villages are now very popular with ex-pats who wish to buy that dream villa in the sun. Prices tend to be cheaper than buying in a resort area but you are still within 15 minutes to the airport or resort of Caleta.
Next door to the resort of Caleta is Costa De Antigua, this is a tourist/residential area in its own right and is rapidly developing. This up and coming area has an array of bars, restaurants and supermarkets and whilst there is no beach, there is a lovely coastal walk that takes you right into Caleta.
Once a sleepy fishing village, Corralejo is the principal resort on the island, built around its original harbour the narrow streets in this area house an abundance of shops, restaurants and plazas. The resort has grown around the same and now stretches right down the edge of the famous sand dunes that simply take your breath away, the kind of setting postcards were made for!
The beaches in the dunes are a main draw to anyone visiting the island and look out onto Lobos island and neighbouring Lanzarote. Watersports are in abundance here and it is common to see numerous kite and wind surfers.
Corralejo has its main street with numerous shops selling everything from clothes, perfume, leather goods and gifts, in addition there are restaurants from all over the world looking to satisfy everybodies tastebuds.
For the kids there is the first waterpark on the island and nearby an amusement park is being constructed to compliment the bowling alley, mini golf and golf driving range that are now open for business. Corralejo again is a great place for buying property with rental in mind as the resort has all the amenities a tourist could want.
There are four main areas popular with buyers in the resort, central Corralejo, Bristol Playa, Parque Natural and Tamaragua. Currently, Corralejo is probably the area with the most new developments, meaning there are some fantastic new developments available at off plan prices.
Corralejo is an ideal place if you are a beach lover or a water sport enthusiast. It is an ideal base to pop over to neighbouring island of Lanzarote with the ferries now completing the journey in around 12-15 minutes.
Neighbouring villages that are popular around Corralejo include, Lajares, Villa Verde, La Oliva, Tindaya and most the commonly known El Cotillo. Trade Wind Properties SL are proud to feature some amazingly beautiful houses both new and old in these places.
Other areas to consider buying include the south of the island include the Jandia penisula which has an amazing array of beaches with powder white sand and turquoise waters. A beach lovers paradise coupled with amazing opportunities to be adventurous on the water sports front.
Not to be overlooked is the island Capital Puerto Del Rosario, perhaps not your first choice but this area is undergoing rapid change mainly around its port due to its forthcoming redevelopment and the Playa Blanca area. Trade Wind Properties SL will shortly be working with a number of developers in this area selling luxury waterside apartments and villas overlooking the sea. Property prices are tipped to rapidly increase here in the coming years.
